Organized crime is rapidly moving away from the drug and other illicit trades
to this more lucrative area where it is easier for them to operate and make money. In 2006, 7 800 cases of Identity Theft
were reported for losses of $19 million.
The Yarmouth Town and County Crime Prevention Association were invited to participate in a
provincial Identity Theft Awareness training session in Halifax in January 2009. This session was provided by the Privacy
Commissioner of Canada, and the Minister of Justice, to the members of of the NS Crime Prevention Association. As a result
of this session the YTCCPA now have trained volunteer members and the resources available to educate our community on this
very important topic.
Detailed
presentations are available on the these topics........
